I finally decided to retire my dlink dir 655 after what seems like a lifetime, 24/7 service over 4 - 5 years. I decided on the RT-AC56U 802.11ac Dual-Band Wireless-AC1200 Gigabit Router 5th generation 802.11ac chipset gives you concurrent dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz at up to super-fast 1167Mbps ASUS AiCloud app included! Sync, share, and stream your files on the go AiRadar optimizes signal strength in any direction with 150% greater coverage USB 3.0 plus USB 2.0 ports for file, 3G/4G, and printer sharing ASUSWRT dashboard UI enables 30-sec easy setup with sleek network monitoring and control Installed it last night which turned out to be a bastard, i initially thought the Asus web interface was to blame but it turned out my Eset AntiVirus was restricting access to it so once that was removed it works a treat. Got it all running smooth this morning, added a hardrive to the USB 3 port to allow streaming of movies and such and file sharing. Wireless speeds to my Nexus 7 & 5 are great:
Weirdly enough I just used my raffle win to buy this.... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-072-AS I know it's probably overkill but my wifi signal at the moment is terrible and I actually have an AC device! By all accounts the Asus routers seem to be pretty great!
What's the HDD performance like? My old Netgear router has a USB port but apparently the write speeds are terrible so I haven't bothered setting it up. Dat price!
Haha, I was looking to spend about 130 quid so, with my winnings it wasn't too bad! I wouldn't imagine that the USB performance is brilliant but that's because the wireless signal can actually interfere with the usb 3 transfer from the router. As far as I remember there is a setting on the router to reduce interference... http://www.intel.com/content/www/us...al-bus/usb3-frequency-interference-paper.html
Don't know that was from a usb3 stick, i just transfered a 10gb file over to an attached usb3 hardrive and that took at least half an hour. Not very fast.
