Hi I was wondering if you guys can help me. I have been without a car for just over 10 years now seeming as I work less than 5 mins from where I live. But I would like to buy a car to get away from the city when I have time on a more frequent basis. I have seen a car I like and looking to purchase maybe in teh New year. Problem is since I haven't had a car in so long my no claims bonus have dissappeared. I have been quoted £1727. At first I thought this was a misatake as I used one of those compare car insurance sites. I can get it down to £1327 but I have a black box fitted but I don't want to go down that route as I am now 46 and not some 25 boy racer trying to instagram POV driving shots. Is the quote right? I have had my license for 28 years with no points or accidents etc. It just seems to me awfully high and is a bit of a deal breaker as I can justify the cost of the car but not the insurance quote I got.
sounds about right for a first year with zero no claims. I've got 15 years no claims and my insurance was £500, most quotes were in the £1200-2200 range. use confused, comparethemarket and any other comparison site, you might get something cheap pop up. I've just fitted an ebike kit to my bike and have gone from driving every day to couple of times a month. If you really dont need a car and just want it for getting away, have you looked into hiring a car for the periods you want to go away for?
Put some named drivers on your quote mate. Doesn`t matter if they never drive your car. If they`ve been driving a while and got a decent no claims accumulated it will help your quote. Other wise, if you can get on someones multi car insurance, that will help, otherwise it`ll be a black box. Both my boys used Marmalde car insurance as their black boxes were a lot more lenient than any others, but you may have had your licence too long for them to accept you. It`s usually new drivers. Scrub Marmalade, you`re far too old! Maybe try an Over 50`s car insurance. Tried Saga?
Nice one bully, totally forgot about putting other people on. A local insurance broker will likely tell you exactly who will reduce it further, when i was 18 i needed a younger female driver to reduce it but i only knew older chicks that could drive.
Thanks for all the replies. I have now managed to get it to around the 1300 mark which is a little bit more palatable. That is without the black box. With the black box it's 1000 but there is no way in hell I am sticking it in my car of choice. Bully>How does the named driver thing work? I do have a friend I can use and he has full NCB but I don't see how that would affect my posistion in the view of insurers. Please explain as I don;t understand it. Now it time to searching for my car of choice at the right price. Once again thanks again guys. M>Dogging? Are you saying you want me to pick you up and take you to your fave dogging spots? I thought you could drive anyways so you have been dogging for years...
you give them the persons details and they are a named driver on your policy, with the same coverage as you. You and your policy doesn't use or effect their policy or NCB. Insurance is just some magic RNG with each company using their own magic formula. I think it works because it factors in that the other person will be driving some of the time and you won't, so you [risky] and them [safe] = less risk/cheaper price. The fact that they will never be in the car means nothing, just game the system and keep some sheckles. Some times it will bring the price down, some times it will knock it up a bit, but with price comparison sites its become possible to quickly get quotes with and without additional drivers.
Thanks sexy>I asked some of my friends and they happily lent me there details. As it turns out they are still thinking they are play GT on the playstation. So it looks like I am resigned to the fact I will have to fork the £1200 over. And with Road tax being £500+ that is at least 1700 for the first year. what happened to the good old days when road tax was like £150.
HAHAHAHAHA wait till you get on the road, the price of road tax is way down the list of things i miss from the good olde days!
