    Well gentlemen, my willpower has been sorely lacking as of late. Now that Christmas is out of the way, I am committing myself to running four times a week, starting with 5k for the next couple of weeks. I'm seriously considering giving intermittent fasting a try, though I'm not sure how compatible it will be with running. What I do know is that I could do with shedding some weight before the marathon.

    Anybody else planning on picking it up again, or maybe even managed to stick at it doing the festive period?

    After the excesses of yesterday, I figured I should do more than 5k this morning. I felt pretty good considering how much crap I ate yesterday, so I went ahead and did a 10k

    I managed to get around in under an hour, which isn't too bad considering my recent weight gain (the scales read 12st 11lb this morning, which caused me to openly swear at myself). The important thing is to keep it up and get out every other day. Hopefully I can serve as an inspiration to the rest of you :p

    I hope you stick to that commitment, MG; I don't want to be the only bastard posting updates to this thread!

    Here's today's run, an 11.5k plod;

    Haha i wont be fat fighting that much just more general training.

    Done a lot of 5 x 5 stronglifts recently with a 5 mile run over some hills every few days. Seen a lot of results but ive slacked off a lot over the last month :(

    Rather than starting a new thread, I figured I should just reuse this entirely adequate one. I have begun my marathon training, starting with a couple of weeks of knocking out consistent 10k runs to regain the conditioning I've lost. The first one on Sunday last week was a bit of an ordeal, but yesterday's was okay. Hopefully I'll be strong enough to start running further by the end of the month. I'd like to get up to at least 16k by mid-February, as I have a half marathon in Richmond on the 23rd. Then it's simply a case of being consistent...

    I decided to treat/punish myself by getting a set of Fitbit Aria scales. As well as measuring your weight, they also make a rough estimate of your body fat percentage and then upload the data to the Fitbit site wirelessly. This means that I can track my weight and body fat percentage without having to remember to write it down - something that I have been terrible at doing. I am down to 12 stone 5lb, which means I'm on track for being below 12 stone for the Richmond half marathon.

    Oh, and I've cancelled my gym membership, because to put it bluntly; **** paying £50 a month for the gym.

    On that note, I cycled for the first time really. In the past I have but not with the intention of making a habit of it.

    So today I took my new bike out for a spin and did a test ride to my office and back, with a half way layover at my gym to use the hot tub.

    Since dropping so much weight it was easier. Still have a long way to go on my conditioning but I intend to be able to cycle 80km a day for 3 days and at a decent clip.

    Speaking of clips, with the new bike I also got shoes and clips. Not too bad for a first day only fell twice! Bloodied one knee only.

    Here is a review on the bike. Not hardcore just something decent for work commuting and some occasional long rides.

    My weight is down to 112.1kg this morning, making it 35.9kg since I started.

    DragonSVD has had his first "clipless moment" - I am proud of you buddy, it's an important initiation rite into the world of cycling! In a few months time you'll be wearing bib shorts and uploading rides to Strava :D

    Hit another milestone. I have now lost 40.1kg since I started my diet. Not bad for the first year. I am only 7.9 away from my goal of 100kg. I am on target for March to reach this goal!

    I should add that my 100 goal is now just a milestone. I am really liking being active. I even cycled to work yesterday when it was 0 degrees out. This last weekend I skied for the first time in many many many years.

    Knees hurt, but I am working through that. Did 10 reps of 160kg leg presses even. Today I really had the don't be idle bug.

    Walked 2.5km in 22 minutes (fast for me!)
    Did 15 minutes of stairs (650)
    Did 25 minutes of circuit training
    Spent 30 minutes in the hot tub.

    Feeling good, hurting often but liking the fact I don't get winded either with cycling or walking fast.

    Blood pressure has dropped too. I went from 170/100 to 116/73 according to yesterday's reading. Just need to get the resting HR down. It still is at 90.

    I managed a 10 mile run this morning, my first since last year's Croydon half marathon;

    http://www.strava.com/activities/113596002/overview

    My weight seems to be holding steady at 12 stone 5lb, which is a bit annoying. I'm not sure if I should try eating less, or if I should run even more. I am planning to start cycling to work in March, which will add 20 miles of cycling a day to my activities - perhaps that'll do the trick.

    The Richmond half marathon is supposed to take place next weekend, but given the extensive flooding in the area I suspect it may be cancelled. Hopefully it'll go ahead; I really want another medal :D

    Still doing the Marathon?

    Hell yes, 14 weeks to go and I'm starting to think that I can pull it off. I might not be able to get around in under four hours, but I'm pretty sure I can do it.

    How goes your training?

    Nice one, carrying a bit of an injury at the moment. Hard to explain but the pain feels behind my left knee.

    That must be annoying, given that you were making good progress upon your return to running. Have you given it some rest?

    Good to see you guys have progressed on your fitness - fair play Saundie on shooting for a marathon. I consider myself in good shape but haven't the willpower to train for a full marathon. How's your training going?

    I did a marathon;

    Still feeling pretty fat though, weighing in at 12 stone 7lb at the moment - though I have eaten like a horse since the marathon, seeing as I'm "on holiday". I will be back to eating like a normal person tomorrow :)

    Out on the bike this morning for the first time this year, and it was a bit of a slog; I managed only 40k before saddle soreness got the better of me. I entered a duathlon last year and it occurred to me that I really should start training for it, now that the marathon is behind me. The event is on the 14th of September, so I've got enough time to get my cycling legs back, and to do a bunch of brick sessions. I've also entered a half marathon for the last Sunday in July, so that'll give me a more immediate target to keep training for.

    My weight is a rather despicable 12 stone 9lb as of this morning, so I'm going to have to make a serious effort to get it back down in time for the end of July. I ran a half marathon distance in 2 hours 4 minutes during one of my marathon training runs, and I'm hoping that a combination of proper training and losing a stone or so will help me crack the 2 hour mark. Onwards and upwards, as they say!

    Has everybody else abandoned ship? :D
