What are your thoughts, people? GorkedWings19, I'm expecting an opinion from you; I assume you've got a pair of 1080s already, after all.

My steadfast GTX 670 is starting to show it`s age, i think that , come the new Battlefield 1 it will be struggling. The Division runs awesomely on it, but it`s temps tell me that it is struggling with decent settings. It wont be just a gpu upgrade though, as my i7 950 is also struggling, maybe even more of a problem than the 670 in some cases. I`d love to upgrade all at once, but the cost is way out of reach tbh. I`m thinking of buying a component a month at the mo, then getting the gpu for a joint Birthday/Christmas present.

There's likely to be a lot of second hand bargains in the next few months; people offloading their GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti following upgrading to the new GTX 1080/1070, for a start. Then there's the highly anticipated Broadwell-E processors, which are rumoured to be just around the corner. The i7-6950x is likely to be ignored due to the insane price (~$1700) but the i7-6900k is a tasty looking processor, with 8 cores at 3.2GHz. People upgrading to these will hopefully mean you'll be able to pick up an i7-5960x or i7-5930k for a low price. DDR3 memory is super cheap at the moment, so you could easily go to 32GB without breaking the bank. Really, there's been no better time to pick up second hand deals!

As for me, I am going to wait to see how much slower and cheaper the GTX 1070 is before making a decision. My GTX 970 is enough for the games I've been playing lately, but faster is always better, right?

I'm waiting on AMD Zen. The UK pricing of the new nVidia cards is shocking but not surprising and Intel have really pissed me off with the excessive socket changes. My 670GTX is still performing great and the Llano APU is doing surprising well in the second machine after my second hand 770GTX failed to last 6 months. I've been looking at getting an R9 380 4GB in the £150 range but they all shot up to £180~, the longer I have gone without any problems, the more I think I can wait to seen what nexts years Zen APU's are like.
  6. My 780Ti still good for now, or so I keep telling myself, need to save some cash up to upgrade so it'll probably be when quantum pcs are common that i'll actually be able to upgrade

The pricing is a bit rich at the moment. Obviously they can do it as its premium tech but I'm not going to be parting with my money. Downsized case so already sold one of my 7970s and remaining one works for now.

Only playing forged alliance at the moment and honestly BF 1 looks pants, why WW1. Just no interesting tech.

Will be holding out until worthwhile game comes out and then will go premium card.

The UK pricing has put a lot of people off. It's the same at other sites too. The US reception and pricing has meant it's been much better received.

Looks like it's going to be the same deal with the GTX 1070. It's a really fast card, but I am still surprised and dismayed by the £399 asking price for the "Founders Edition". My GTX 970 was £289, so it's surprising that nVidia have priced it's replacement so highly.

I guess I will wait to see what the GTX 1060 and the new AMD card bring to the table.

Agreed, 9/10 people have been bitching about the 1070 price, it's about £100 more than most people in this segment are prepared to pay. I think i'm going to get the RX 480, low power, decent speed and sub £200, hopefully £160.

That's because they are not real gamers!!

I have 980 ti sli and I will be switching if all things pan out smoothly to 1080 sli. I am looking forward to BF1 as I love ww2 games even though that is ww1 it will do. I was more hoping for bf2143 but failing that war set in the past suits me fine.

I was hoping AMD would entice me with something but since the 5870 nothing has come close. Well there was the fury x and I was about to get that when I saw the pricing and reviews. And maybe it just me but I am just not feeling it with AMD at this current time. Having said that I am not happy with nvidia pricing but as anyone who has bought an nvidia card who would be happy.

I still have my 780ti and it been a great card but times have changed ands sure I still feel the 980ti is still a good card but when has it been sensible to stick with what you got and wait? Not me. I know as soon as I get the 1080 sli setup then within 6 months the TI version will be out that's what people really want.

As for the new braodwell E platform I don't really know too much about it as I am not really planning to upgrade the cpu or motherboard currently. I just don;t need the extra cpu's and there is not one single feature I can honestly say that would entice me to switch unless with every cpu+mb bundle you get a free lapdancing bar.

The GTX 1060 has recently been announced, and it looks like the sweet spot for most people. nVidia are promising the performance of a GTX 980 for £250, while also using less power. It's probably not enough of an upgrade from a GTX 970 to warrant a purchase, however, so I'll probably try to see if I can pick up a cheap GTX 980 Ti, or maybe even a Titan!

Well given I'm on an itx build at the moment heat is the big issue so not sure what's best 1060 or just invest in 1080.

I'd like to think ill play bf1 a lot but doubt commitments will allow it.

Bah, I'm going AMD. Waiting on the 8pin 3rd party cooled RX 480 to come out. Nvidia have priced the new cards way too high IMHO.

On further consideration, I've decided to stick with the GTX 970. Now is not the right time to be buying hardwares.

For a Mini-ITX build, I would have thought the GTX 1060 would have been the better choice - significantly lower power, and also shorter PCB length. Unless, of course, you need the brute force of the GTX 1080 for 4k gaming?

Urgggghhh THe titan XP has been released and it has been a real struggle to resist. Due to work I never managed to get round to upgrading to 1080's and then they release this. I really want to get this badly and doing everything in my power to fight it off. At twice the speed of a 980ti and without the sli driver issues. And if this card had been 600 pounds it a no brainer.

As much as I really want it a few things put me off. Obviously the biggest one is the price of the carrd. With only Nvidia selling direct 1100 squidlets is way too much for a consumer gaming card. The reference cooler. As much as I like the look of it and with only Nvidia making it rather than licensing it out to third parties a)it will be hot b) it will be loud. Whihc then forces to only really get teh potential out of the card leaves watercooling.

so for a single card you would need a waterblock for it whihc is typically 80-100 pounds and then the whole watercooling kit. So it is not really 1100. I tmore like 1200 only if you have the watercooling setup to go with it.

I do not doubt what this card represents and under watercooling it could may well be the first single gpu card that can run 4k games comfortably. That I recognise but as long as people buy this card it sets a precedent for them to release another card later and charge what they like. which is what they are doing now. There is nothing to stop them as a)people want the fastest and b)AMD have nothing remotely close.

If AMD had a card which could offer 90-95% for 500 people would snap it up and the card will fail bigtime. CArd like the old 5870 set AMD on fire. ANd was a huge hit with consumers. I just don;t understand why release products like the fury x.

People can accept a manufacturer card being only a few frames off if the price is right. But not when it as clearcut as a titan xp to amd latest high end. And people will buy this card and wit will do well giving the astonishing price point. At with the power of 980 sli and 20% faster than a 1080gtx without modding the power or getting under thew watercooling it really is a beastly product.

Yet this time for me it doesnt sit well with me.'ANd as much as I gripe and moan about it I know deep down it a case of how long I can resist. To drop 1100 on a graphics card which will superceded by the 1080ti in a few months time the hassle of additional cost with getting watercooled suprisingly doesn;t put me off as much as I would of hoped it would.

I'm going back to AMD purely because Nvidia are price raping. AMD might be competitive in 2 cards time, but for most people they will play everything higher than their monitors refresh rate at its native resolution and for a much cheaper price.

I have a new rig with a founders 1080 built the day they came out sitting at the girlfriends.
Paired with the g sync monitor it produces really great results.
Just buying the boy a modded one for his rig now as well as his birthday present.
