New Site General Feedback

Glad you like it Personally the text is a little small and hard to read with my old eyes, so I used the default Xenforo style while building the place. It grew on me.

That was the killer feature that clinched it for Xenforo over vBulletin. I think mobiles account for about 60% of all web traffic now, so it's a pretty big factor.

Couldn't believe it was available. A 'brand' domain usually costs a couple of grand. £16. Bargain

That's a paid for mod which I stumbled on totally by accident while looking for a raffle system. I've seen nothing of it's sort for games, which is a shame.

Thought hard about that, but in the end it came down to nostalgia. I will personally feel a great sense of defeat the day BFB doesn't exist any more. Gaming communities come and go, but this one has endured. By the standards of our genre we're ancient, and I'm sure there's not many amateur efforts of any web genre that can boast our lifespan. Everyone here can say 'I did that', and it would have been a crime to let it go in my books.

Absolutely, hence the rush to get this place open in time for launch. I'm looking forward to seeing some fresh faces here.

If you mean a separate sports section, well you've just hit my main aim with this site; density. The old site had tons of barely used forums and sub-forums, which meant a lot of browsing to read everything that had been posted. Here it's condensed into 7. Instead of sub-forums, I've used thread prefixes to separate stuff. You can see how @GoRedwings used one in his Apple thread.

Which leads me neatly onto user-tagging. Just use @username in a post, and they'll receive an alert that they've been mentioned. It's a great way to bring people into threads and take the piss cos they're team's just got thrashed.

I had a few different versions running on my local test site. The problem is the workload involved in maintaining a bazillion different styles, and a lot of em just look crap;

I also liked the green. It wasn't necessarily what we were aiming for when we first created BFB, but it certainly adds to the nostalgia.

I've not really been around for the last two or three years so I'd really like to see some of the other BFB members back here, but it'll also be good to get this place going with new members too.

I think Weets said it's not doable as it screws up the other side bars, you can find the latest posts here.

I tried this. It was a bit of a trade off as it broke the donation and raffle widgets. There's a 'new posts' button in the navabar, between that, watching forums and the alerts, it wasn't worth the widget.

And the TS auto-link, just bookmark it in the client. Seemples.

I know that may seem like a bit of a side-step, but they're easy solutions for you and take a hell of a lot of ball-ache out of updating the forum software.
