I thought I would start a new thread. going through the cars I have owned . hopefully u guys will join in with some u have owned I passed my test at 17 and this car was the first car I owned .not an original photo im afraid as I couldn't find them .(probably in black and white ! ) it was a marina coupe 1.8 twin carb in white (very fashionable now don't u know ) it cost me £400.00 quid and cost £130.00 to insure !! those were the days the boy racer in me made me run the tyres a bit flat so it screeched like fook round any corner lol it was no looker but it did beat my mates capris and escorts and minis very easily . I had the old rust bucket for 2 years and sold it for £200.00 . happy days . hopefully u guys will join in and we will see some classic boy racer stuff or not? will post my next car in a week or so . it cost £35.00 to insure bet u cant guess wot it was ???? oops should have put the year I passed my test 1979
My dad had one of those when I was a kid. It was orange with a brown interior. *shudder. I almost got one when I passed my test, 12 years ago, as I spotted a decent condition one when I was scouting for cars.
My 1st car, and that colour!! Went with my surf boy image. Passed my test in 1988, and passed 1st time. my 2nd car, not so proud of this one! LoL Not the GTi version, just the normally aspirated diesel.
I'll answer your question in the thread title and ignore your post otherwise I can't really answer what cars I have owned because I'm only 26 and have 1 car I formerly owned, a boring Renualt Megane. Anyway, onto the more interesting question of what I have driven. I think I'll talk about the first car I ever drove because I'm only a fledgeling when it comes to age. My age shows itself the most with classic cars because half the classics ceased production before I was born. The first car I ever drove was a Land Rover Defender 110, it looked the same as all the others but here is a picture just incase you forgot: I come from Africa so thought I'd get a picture with a nature reserve type background, seems Australia had the best picture that looked similar to where I drove the family Land Rover... Anyway. Ours had a V8 engine with a galvanised chassis. V8 Land Rovers weren't that popular in SA and the galvanisation process was stopped by Land Rover for some unknown reason so it was mildly rare. Galvanisation is a chemical protection process that is very effective at increasing the service live of vehicle chassis if you were wondering. With a V8 at the other end of my foot it was easy to learn to drive, so long as you ignored the ridiculously difficult clutch and gearbox that thing had; it was like lifting weights with your legs and arms when changing gears. My dad's reasoning was that if I could drive a Defender then I could drive anything; it turned out to be true but he didn't foresee flappy paddle gearboxes which confused me at Mercedes-benz World when I went on their hour AMG driving experience; it was awesome by the way, highly recommended. So that is the first car I drove/learnt to drive in. Was an interesting experience and I have fond memories of the car.
The original title for the thread was "Wot Did U Used To Drive ?.", but I changed it because it was entirely necessary to do so. As for the question posited in the OP: I have never driven a vehicle that wasn't powered by my own muscles.
Why did I immediately think ok a hamster in a wheel? This is my beast I've been using lately. It's about ten years old and i've only changed the seat on it. Still has the same tyres and inner tubes. My list of cars is as follows : Fiat Uno - maroon. Had a scrape with a drive thru bollard and covered it up with an A-Team strip on one side. 1 litre but went like stank. Think the radiator was installed by the Pope it was so holey. Ford Fiesta - gold ghia. Was a decent car in all honesty but it did look like it belonged to a granny. Renault Clio - black 1.5dci with sport pack. Drove great on the a roads and motorways and had loads of torque. Had it new for two year then was written off while parked in the middle of the night. For my next car reread the comment above. Ford Mondeo - 2l tdci grey. Drove like a water bed, but the boot was massive. Missus let some young lad drive his brand new VW Golf GTI into the side of it. Citroën C4 - light blue 1.6 diesel. Looks sporty to me but the missus thinks it's an old biddy car, it's probably because of the rally racing I used to see it in.
When I passed my test I drove a Vauxhall Calibra 2.0 16v, A Rover Sterling (don;t know if anyone remember those), Toyota Carina E 2.0, Lexus 300SE, Mercedes SLK
hey redders, dig out a photo of a rover sterling ? I don't even remember one of those looked on auto trader . that rover was a bit of luxury ,was it not?
ok now don't laugh ..............lol u got to ain't ya. my Renault 5 boosted and awe inspiring 850 cc engine . 0 t0 60 in a day ! it was £35.00 to insure!!! . even at my age now I wish I could get insurance that cheap. bought for .... u guessed it ...£400.00 . had to have major welding on its first MOT after I got it and I got rid of it fairly quickly for £300 . I find it amazing I can still remember all this crap and I now cant find my way home next in line will be my dads cars I drove . when I couldn't afford a car .( house bought at 20 ,marriage ,kids . .)
Is that where your name came from? That sure does look like a steel snail I couldn't help it, was laughing so hard that the above two sentences just popped into my head and I had to share them.
Your not far wrong . My original name was CrC_Snail . which was given to me by a load of Dutch peeps I used to play midtown madness 1and2 with. I loved that game .it was one of the best, fun driving games ever. The CrC bit was Crazy Cops (clan) and u guessed it .....I was snail as I was the slowest in the clan . I have not had steelsnail as a nick for very long and most old BFBers know me as crcsnail.
still a work in progress. this is whats new Ford Monza Blue paint New black/white grips New trigger gear shifter (SRAM) New derailleur (SRAM) New 8 speed cassette (SRAM) [replaced 7 speed freewheel] New chain (SRAM) New hydraulic front and rear brakes (Clarks) New wheels New tyres (Schwalbe City Jet) New seat/saddle New pedals ordered a new mudguard which can fold away under the seat when not needed, and a black suspension seatpost. Thinking of changing the seat for a white or red version, but going to see how the seatpost looks first. Then it'll be a case of sourcing some white forks.
