I'm thinking about replacing my R9 280X with the Nvidia alternative. The GTX770 looks to be the closest based on spec and cost, but which should I get? Which make/model? Pre overclocked? @Weetabix @GoRedwings
The first thing I'd say is why? The 280X can play almost everything at full settings and is better than nVidia offerings at higher resolutions. The other point worth mentioning is the planned release of new cards at the end of the year, 380/390 from AMD and 870/880 from nVidia. Doing a side grade now seems crazy when you could spend the same money on an upgrade within a year. That being said I choose cards based on their bundle of games, if they have any, and the cooler that they have because the better the cooler the lower its noise is likely to be. The Gigabyte Windforce 3X OC is on sale at Scan at the moment for £240: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-...gddr5-gpu-1137mhz-boost-1189mhz-cores-1536-dp That seems like the best deal at the moment. The Windforce cooler is well regarded, I had an older HD6950 Windforce card and it performed really well, great temps and silent. The other options I'd choose from would be the ASUS DirectCU II and EVGA but they both seem to be more expensive than Gigabyte for both 2Gb and 4Gb options while none of them offer anything I'd be willing to pay the premium for.
MSi always get my vote, all 3 machines in the house have them, never had any problems and great performance imho. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-202-MS
I'm not anymore, got myself a brand new GTX780 for just over £300. Literally installing the drivers now.
Good call chief. It's the choice I would have made if I played PC games and needed a graphics card. I'm sure you'll have many happy days together
Yeah. Had a weird problem when I first installed it and had to completely remove all drivers and start again. All is good now though. Used Nvidia Experience to optimise BF4 settings and turned on ShadowPlay.
